Start a cold engine

From the ECHO PB-580H/T operator's manual.

Start a cold engine: steps
01Move the choke to the COLD START position.
02Pump the purge bulb until you see fuel in it, then 4 or 5 more times.
03Hold the unit firmly and pull the starter with short pulls, about half to two thirds of the rope, up to 5 times.
04When it fires, move the choke to RUN and pull until it runs. Let it warm up at idle for a few minutes. If it won't start on RUN after 5 pulls, go back to step 1.

Clean or replace the air filter

Inspect daily. Replace every 3 months.

Clean or replace the air filter: steps

02Brush dirt off the air cleaner area. Remove the filter cover and brush out the inside.
03Take out the filter and brush it lightly.Replace it (A226000032) if it is damaged, fuel soaked, very dirty, or its rubber edge is out of shape.
04Refit the filter and the cover.

Replace the fuel filter

Inspect every 3 months; replace yearly or if dirty.

Safety Fuel is flammable. Do this outdoors, away from sparks and flames.

Replace the fuel filter: steps

02Pull the fuel line and filter out of the tank opening.
03Pull the old filter off the line and push on a new one (A369000460).Replacement fuel hoses on 2012 and later units must be EPA-certified.
04Drop the filter back into the tank and refit the cap.

Replace the spark plug

Inspect every 3 months.

Replace the spark plug: steps
01Remove the plug and look for fouling or a worn, rounded center electrode.
02Clean it or fit a new NGK BPM8Y. Don't sandblast a plug.
03Set the gap to 0.65 mm (0.026 in) by bending the outer electrode.
04Tighten to 130–150 lbf·in.
